I'm Not Joanna Gaines: The Home Tour

Confession: I'm mildly obsessed with the show Fixer Upper. Like, in my next life, I'm going to be Joanna Gaines. Picture perfect marriage, adorable children, great fashion sense, beautiful home, the whole nine yards.

But since the feasibility of that is little to none, and I rather like who I am in this life, I've settled for thinking I'm better at interior designing than I really am (and loving the heck out of it).

We're still working on the whole picture perfect marriage, adorable children, and great fashion sense thing (after all, I am only 22, focused on my career, and trying to figure out how to keep myself alive in the adult world first), so for now, beautiful home it is. As a creative individual whose home is also her office, it's crucial to have a space that keeps me inspired. So here it is.

The Living Room

One of my favorite things in my whole home is the "Home Sweet Home" sign I made out of a pallet. All I needed was a hammer, nails, my chicken wings for arms, and my daddy's help. Check out our coffee table (below), repurposed by the lovely Heather at Ninny's Attic . She did our kitchen table and chairs, too, and quite frankly, she's darn good at what she does.

The Kitchen/Dining Room

Our actual kitchen is rather "plain jane" (and I haven't done the dinner dishes yet, oops), so feast your eyes on our pretty dining room instead. Again, one of my favorite things in my home is the mason jar vase contraption (below) I made with a pallet. (Almost poked my eye out with a screw-- No one said it was smart to put a drill driver in my hands.) Found the basket on the kitchen table at an antique shop (go figure), and my mama dearest made that beautiful table runner in the middle. Honorable mention goes to the farmers' market flowers that lasted for two whole weeks. (When you don't have a fella yet, sometimes you just have to buy yourself the flowers.)

Confession Number Next: I LOVE antiques. Love love love them. Put me in an antique shop and I will find something to repurpose and give a new home. (And I will probably spend too much money in the process.) I found this darling antique sewing drawer at an antique shop in Dyersville, Iowa and decided to use it to hold what little amount of makeup I do put on my face. (ISN'T IT SO PRETTY?)

This probably takes the cake as my favorite area in the whole apartment. I found the old record table and matching wall shelf at a massive antique sale in Iowa ( The Market at White Barns ) that nearly gave me heart palpitations from sheer excitement. My record player and the whopping 20 records I own are some of my most prized possessions, as is my great-grandma's original wedding photo on the floating shelf. I can't walk in my room without smiling at this corner :)

All I need is some canvases, paint and brushes, and a hot glue gun to pretend I know what I'm doing.

STUNNING handmade quilt hand stitched by my Great-Grandpa Myers.   When it comes to furnishing a home, I'm very anti-mainstream. Put me in Target, and I'm as weak as any basic female who gets stuck in the kitchen and $3 sections for hours on end, but the same does not apply for interior designing. So, after hours on Facebook Marketplace, I found this gorgeous antique shelf for my boatloads of books. Can we just take a moment of appreciation for those DRAWERS though?!

My lovely work space with lovely little windows to match. Featuring photos of some of the people that make my heart happy and a painting I did of one of my favorite memories on the coast of Oregon (The Pacific Northwest has my heart).

I finally furnished this area this weekend and it is, without a doubt, my haven. We have 95 degree heat in Tennessee right now, but that hasn't stopped me from plopping my butt in one of the chairs and painting/reading the weekend away. I have a thing for the outdoors and fairy lights, so this little slice of heaven has my heart. All I need now is my two wooden rocking chairs and all will be well. :)

So there you have it. I never claimed to be Joanna Gaines. But I always was one for playing pretend.
